Archive for the “Art Team” Category

so the art team has been thrown in the deep end. Full on modeling by Clyde has commenced, the poor man is neck deep in maya. Bowman has been creating some mood boards, Abbey has been creating some awesome animation loops from Liam’s character spread sheet. I’ve been making loading screens in the form of movie posters. I think we are begining to understand the immensity of the project we are attempting, but this doesn’t stop the design team giving us more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more…glorious.

for your viewing pleasure, some stuff!

Its week 2 and now that we have decided on the game we’re going to make, all the concept art stops and the technical stuff begins. Which means the artists are going to be working along side the programers a lot! We spent most of the day assigning tasks to each member in the art department and later went out to film toby run and climb up ledges around the Precinct (Yes, we did get funny looks from passer-by’s) After that, Liam went on to work on the documentation for the art team, Clyde had already begun on doing pre-renders of the confirmed level designs, Bowman and I were sitting through all the reference footage and picking out the ones we want to use, and Toby got cracking on the title screens and posters for the game.

And sorry, no pwetty pictures from the art team today

Today was a big day for the art team because the industry board came in to help us make the decision that we have all been waiting for the entire week and what game we’ll end up doing. The decision was Stunt Man which is properly titled B-Grade, wooohhhhhoooooo. What this means is that next week we will be able to create artworks that will be used in the game, super exciting. But for now it is time for a break and relax, to get our focus ready for the biggest weeks coming.

Day four, as the game designs are coming together, we’re starting to flesh out the concept a little more too. With a little more focus on the whimsical.

So far we’ve got 2 concepts we’re focusing on, as well as a selection of 3 different flesh eating

diseases. Gotta have a lot done for tomorrow when the board comes to visit and hope like crazy that they like at least one of the ideas, if not, then we’re going to have to think of something else they DO like before we move on to anything else.

Really keen on some input from the public tho

ugh. I really love you guys, I do, seriously. I get lonely at night…. I don’t know what to do without you.

anyway, this is Bowman wishing you well. don’t hurt yourself, and post something damnit!

Day 3 done and we’re finally getting some radical artwork from our team. The awesome design team pitched us some of their concepts and we started to go crazy on the canvas ever since.

Here are some of the character concept sketches…

After our morning meeting, in which each department was soundly thrashed for their benefit. The art department, broken and bleeding was hurled into the back of a mysterious black van that smelled suspicously of old carpet. Bound, gagged and spun around three times upon disembarkment, we were thrust blinking stupidly into the blinding sun. It seemed we had arrived at the State Library of Queensland. Here we were chained like filthy apes to our sketchbooks and cameras and went about taking photos of mondo grass (which is cool) and identical rooms (which although modern, not as cool or interesting as mondo grass). I’ve uploaded some of my sketches from the SQL. it’s actually quite futuristic for a library and does not smell in any way like moldey books and knowledge. pity really.

So it has begun. Alot of waking up early, arriving groggily at some ungodly hour to be faced by a looming facade of glass fishbowl that is our studio. The team dribbled in faction at a time, and stood around introducing themselves and squinting in the morning sun.

We sat. Were run through the usual admin stuff and warned of the scorching doom that awaited us upon any failure of this project. Clearly this was not to be an option!

The art team spent most of the day meeting and greeting and showing off sketchbooks. A lot of ego stroking and drooling over cool drawings was the order of the day it seemed. It was interesting to see how many different ways each member used the same software to create their art. Good things are expected from our studio and the art team doesn’t wanna let anyone down. My hopes of submitting reams of stick figures was quickly dashed.

Some seriously intense brainstorming followed, ideas, formulations, thoughts, comments, criticisms, hand grenades and full throttle mayhem transpired across a gleaming white table.

Not really much to show yet, the art boys are working towards having lots of pretty pictures up soon.

Hoorah! viva la GameOn!

Toby, Master of all He surveys.
